GMB Optimisation in Delhi — Google Business Profile and Map Pack SEO

The map pack sends enquiries faster than organic rankings do — and most profiles are left half-finished.

01

The map pack is where local buying starts

For anything with local intent, the three map results sit above every organic listing. A large share of clicks never travel further down the page.

Which means for a Delhi business, the Business Profile is often more commercially valuable than the website — and it is usually the thing nobody owns. Categories left on a guess, hours wrong, no service list, four photos from 2021.

Delhi is the hardest local market in the region. Density means the pack radius shrinks to a few hundred metres in central areas, so a profile that ranks in Karol Bagh may be invisible in Lajpat Nagar despite being the same business.

For multi-location businesses this means one profile per location, each independently optimised, with matching location pages on the website. Trying to serve all of Delhi from a single profile is the most common and most expensive mistake here.

02

Where your customers actually search in Delhi

We build local relevance around Connaught Place, Nehru Place, Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar, Rohini and Dwarka — the places your customers name when they search, rather than the city as an abstraction.

That means locality-level landing pages on the website, service listings inside the profile that use the language customers use, and photos named and geo-tagged to match. Google cross-references the profile against the website, so the two have to say the same thing.

We also add LocalBusiness schema to your site with matching name, address and hours. When the structured data and the profile agree, the location signal is materially stronger.

03

Reviews are the lever most businesses never pull

Review count, average rating and recency all feed map ranking, and they feed the customer's decision even harder. Between two profiles at similar distance, the one with more recent reviews wins almost every time.

Most businesses ask for reviews sporadically — a burst after someone reads an article about it, then nothing for six months. Google reads that pattern as stale. A steady trickle beats an occasional flood.

We set up a repeatable ask — the right moment, the right wording, a direct link — and response templates so every review gets a reply. Buying reviews is not something we do; it breaches Google's policies and profiles get suspended for it.

The market

The Delhi market, specifically

Delhi is not one market. Nehru Place buys like a technology bazaar, Karol Bagh like a wholesale trading hub, South Delhi like a premium consumer market. A single page written for “Delhi” speaks to none of them convincingly.

It is also the most contested auction and the most contested SERP in the country. Head terms here are held by agencies with twenty-year-old domains, which is why the winnable ground is at the locality level rather than the city level.

The Metro defines the catchment. People will cross Delhi on a train for a specialist and will not cross a road for something routine, so intent decides the radius, not distance alone.

01

Where the demand sits

Connaught place, nehru place, karol bagh, the okhla industrial estates, lajpat nagar and south extension, netaji subhash place and dwarka.

02

Who is buying

Trading and wholesale, retail, professional services, healthcare and hospitality.

03

How they search

A single page written for “Delhi” speaks to none of them convincingly.

04

What that means for you

Head terms here are held by agencies with twenty-year-old domains, which is why the winnable ground is at the locality level rather than the city level.

The local playbook

What actually moves the map pack in Delhi

Delhi has the densest local competition in the country, and proximity dominates it more aggressively than anywhere else. In Nehru Place or Karol Bagh there can be forty competing businesses inside a single kilometre, which means the pack changes street by street and the whole idea of a city-wide local ranking is fiction.

That density makes review velocity the decisive factor. Where forty profiles are equally close and equally relevant, Google separates them on prominence, and the most legible prominence signal is a steady flow of recent reviews. A profile gaining four reviews a month beats one sitting on ninety reviews from three years ago.

Categories in Delhi are also frequently wrong in a specific way: businesses in the old trading markets pick a category that describes their trade rather than what customers search for. A Nehru Place hardware seller listed under “Wholesaler” will not appear for “laptop repair near me”, whatever else is on the profile.

Finally, Delhi profiles are the most likely in NCR to be suspended, usually for keyword stuffing in the business name. It works briefly, and then the profile disappears. We will not do it, and if a competitor is doing it, that is reportable.

01

Reviews, weekly

In a market this dense, recency separates otherwise identical profiles.

02

Category, not trade

List what customers search for, not what your trade licence calls you.

03

Street-level reality

The pack changes within a kilometre. Expect and measure that.

04

No name stuffing

It works for a few months and then the profile is suspended. Not worth it.

FAQ

GMB optimisation in Delhi — frequently asked questions

Do I need separate profiles for each Delhi location?

If you have staffed premises customers visit, yes — one profile per location, each verified separately, each with its own landing page on the site. Delhi's pack radius is tight enough that a single profile simply will not surface across zones.

How long does local SEO take to work?

Profile fixes — categories, hours, services, photos — often move visibility within two to four weeks because they are direct ranking inputs. Review-driven gains build over months. Anyone promising top-three map placement in a week is describing a low-competition term nobody searches.

Can you get fake reviews removed?

We can report reviews that breach Google's policies — spam, off-topic, conflict of interest — and a reasonable share do get removed. Genuine negative reviews will not be removed, and should not be. A well-handled negative review does less damage than most owners fear.

What is NAP consistency and does it matter?

Name, address and phone number appearing identically everywhere online. Inconsistencies across directories weaken the location signal Google builds about you. It is unglamorous cleanup work and it reliably moves the needle, particularly for businesses that have moved premises or changed numbers.

Do Google Posts actually affect ranking?

Indirectly. Posts are not a strong direct ranking factor, but they increase engagement, keep the profile looking active, and occupy space in the knowledge panel that competitors otherwise fill. The businesses posting weekly generally outperform those posting never.

Should I also list on Bing Places and Apple Maps?

Yes, and it takes an hour. Volume is far lower than Google, but the listings are free, they add citation consistency, and Apple Maps increasingly feeds iPhone search results. There is no reason to skip it.

Process

How an engagement runs for Delhi

Six stages, in this order. We do not skip ahead because a client is impatient — the sequence exists because each stage depends on the one before it.

01

Claim, verify, categorise

Profile claimed and verified, then primary category chosen deliberately. Primary category is one of the strongest ranking inputs in the map pack, and it is routinely set to whatever sounded reasonable on the day. Correcting it alone sometimes moves position within days.

02

Complete every field

Services, products, attributes, hours including holidays, service areas, description. Google rewards completeness and most profiles sit around half filled. Unglamorous work with an unusually direct payoff.

03

Citations and NAP cleanup

Name, address and phone made identical across every directory listing you. Inconsistency dilutes the location signal, and businesses that have moved premises or changed numbers almost always leave a trail of stale listings working against them.

04

Photos and posts

Fresh, real, geo-relevant photos added on a schedule, plus weekly Google Posts. Neither is a strong direct ranking factor; both increase engagement and occupy knowledge-panel space competitors would otherwise fill.

05

Review engine

A repeatable ask at the right moment with a direct link, plus response templates so every review gets a reply. Steady flow beats occasional bursts — Google reads recency, and so do customers.

06

Match the website

LocalBusiness schema on the site mirroring the profile exactly. When structured data and profile agree, the location signal is measurably stronger than when they drift apart.

Pitfalls

The mistakes we see in Delhi

Every one of these comes from an account or a site we have actually inherited. None of them are hypothetical.

ONE DELHI

Treating Delhi as a single market

Optimising for “in Delhi” alone puts you against the strongest domains in Indian search for a term that converts poorly anyway. Locality-level pages are slower to feel impressive and far faster to actually rank.

AVOID

Half-completed profile

Missing services, no attributes, no holiday hours, three photos. Google rewards completeness, and most profiles leave easy points on the table.

AVOID

Sporadic review requests

A burst of reviews then six months of silence reads as stale. Steady flow beats occasional flood, both for ranking and for the customer reading them.

AVOID

Never responding to reviews

Especially the negative ones. Prospective customers judge the response more than the complaint. Silence reads as indifference.

AVOID

Inconsistent NAP

Old addresses and disconnected numbers scattered across directories weaken the location signal. Unglamorous cleanup, reliable payoff.

Before you hire anyone

Questions to ask any local SEO agency in Delhi

Ask these of us and of everyone else you are considering in Delhi. The answers separate agencies faster than any proposal does. Local knowledge matters too — an agency that has worked around Connaught Place, Nehru Place and Karol Bagh will understand your customers better than one working from a template.

If an answer is vague, that is the answer. Vagueness at the sales stage becomes vagueness in reporting.

  • Who owns the accounts, domain and data if we leave?
  • What exactly is delivered each month, in writing?
  • Do you mark up ad spend or media cost?
  • Who actually does the work, and where do they sit?
  • What is the notice period, and what happens on exit?
  • Can I speak to a client you stopped working with?
  • What would make you tell me to stop spending?
Expectations

What results realistically look like in Delhi

Honest timelines, based on engagements we have actually run rather than what sounds persuasive in a pitch.

WEEKS 1–4

Foundation

Audit, fixes and setup. Little visible movement. This is the stage clients find hardest, and skipping it is why most engagements underperform later.

MONTHS 2–3

First signals

Early movement on long-tail terms, campaigns stabilising, first attributable enquiries. Enough data to know what is working and what is not.

MONTHS 4–6

Compounding

Commercial keywords move, cost per enquiry falls as the account matures, and content published earlier starts ranking. This is where the work pays back.

MONTH 6+

Scale or stop

By now the numbers are clear. Either we scale what works, or we tell you honestly that the channel is not right for your business.

Plain English

Terms you will hear, explained

Agencies hide behind jargon. Here is what the words actually mean, so you can hold any vendor to account — including us.

Map pack

The three local results shown above organic listings. For local intent it captures a large share of all clicks.

NAP

Name, address, phone. Consistency across the web is a core local ranking signal.

Proximity

Distance between searcher and business. The strongest local factor and the one you cannot change — which is exactly why the others matter.

Google Posts

Short updates published to your profile. Weak direct ranking effect, useful engagement and knowledge-panel space.

Service area

The geography you serve. Set incorrectly, it either limits reach or dilutes relevance.

More questions

Things clients ask before signing

The questions that come up in almost every first conversation here.

Q

The pack changes every few streets. How do we report on that?

We track a grid of points across your catchment rather than a single city ranking, because a single number would be meaningless in a market this dense. You see where you win and where you do not.

Q

A competitor has stuffed keywords into their business name. Can we?

You can, and the profile will very likely be suspended for it. It is reportable, and we will file the report, but we will not do it on your profile.

Q

We are in a market complex with forty similar businesses. Is this worth doing?

That is exactly where it is worth doing, because when everyone is equally close, prominence decides it, and almost none of those forty are working on prominence.
